EN: This one-week workshop was a chance to increase our understanding of the algorithm. We were asked to connect three points of an abstract cube such that an interior space was created within it. So we decided to work with Grasshopper’s genetic solver (the Galapagos module) to define a series of three bounces, the last of which reached one of the defined points. The cube was therefore no longer a constraint, but a space whose limits were factored in and integrated into the project. The points thus obtained were then opened in Kangaroo and linked by a stretched fabric filled with a net that would be hollowed out to create the space.
FR: Ce workshop d’une semaine fut l’occasion d’approfondir la notion d’algorithme. La demande était de relier 3 points d’un cube abstrait de manière à recréer un espace à l’intérieur de celui-ci. Nous avons alors décidé de faire appel au solveur génétique de Grasshopper (le module Galapagos) de manière à définir une série de 3 rebonds dont le dernier atteint un des points définis. Le cube n’est alors plus une contrainte, mais un espace dont les limites sont prises en comptes et intégrées au projet. Les points ainsi obtenus sont récupérés dans kangaroo et ainsi reliés par une toile tendue remplie d’une résille qui sera creusée pour créer l’espace final.
