EN: The purpose of this project was to integrate the question of materiality into the heart of the design process. We were asked to design a pop-up aviary to be installed on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Streamlining and the integration of structural planning was made possible using Grasshopper’s parametric design features to conceive the pavilion. Thus, instead of looking for a shape to streamline and make the structure feasible, this project started out from the structural details. Switching between the different scales allowed a correlation between the overall form, the construction details and the constructive credibility of the project while upholding strong spatial intentions.
FR: Ce projet avait pour objectif d’intégrer la question de la matérialité au cœur du processus de conception. Il nous était alors demandé de concevoir une volière éphémère prenant place dans le contexte parisien des Champs-Élysées.
L’intégration de la pensée structurelle fut rendu possible par la conception entièrement paramétrique (sur Grasshopper) du pavillon. Ainsi, plutôt que de chercher une forme à rationnaliser de manière à la rendre constructible, ce projet prend pour point de départ des détails structurels. Les allés-retours entre les différentes échelles ont permis une corrélation entre la forme globale, les détails constructifs ainsi que crédibilité constructive du projet tout en conservant des intentions spatiales fortes.
