FR: Eiffage Metal est chargée du lot façade du projet Battersea Power Station par l’architecte Frank Gehry. Durant cette phase de «design assist», Eiffage a fait des propositions concernant la fabrication et le coût de la façade en restant au plus proche de la géométrie fournie par l’architecte.
J’ai eu la chance de pouvoir travailler au sein d’une équipe d’ingénieurs sur cette question du lien étroit qu’entretiennent fabrication et conception numérique. Mon travail porta principalement sur de la rationalisation et de l’analyse géométrique. Ce travail fut entièrement réalisé autour du logiciel Digital Project (dérivé de CATIA) afin de traiter un grand nombre d’éléments grâce à des scripts. J’ai également pu me rendre dans l’usine chargée de la fabrication des prototypes.
EN: Eiffage Metal had the responsibility of the facade of Frank Gehry’s Battersea project. During this «design assist» phase, Eiffage had to make some proposi-tions regarding the fabrication and the cost of the facade.
I had the chance to work with this engineering team on this specific link between the digital conception and fabrication. My work mainly consisted of optimization and analysis of the geometry. In that way, I used the entirely parametric Digital Project software. Scripting was a big part of the job, in order to automatize the treatment of hundreds of elements. I also had the opportunity to visit the factory where the project is prefabricated.
